Army War2 071415 A development project headed by US firm Applied Nanotech has successfully integrated printed electronic antennas into bomb- and bullet-resistant armour panels intended for military vehicles.

The work has been conducted with Armortex, an existing Texas-based supplier of composite armour systems into the defence industry.

Additional antenna design and modelling expertise was supplied by academics based at the University of Tennessee (UT) in Knoxville and Pennsylvania’s University of Villanova.

Applied Nanotech has built the wideband antennas in two designs. These have been tested and found to be satisfactory when built into fibreglass-based armour panels supplied by Armortex.
